This was through the merger of Tower Hamlets College and Hackney Community College. Since then, other colleges have joined. These include Redbridge College, Epping Forest College, and Havering Colleges. In 2024, BSix Sixth Form College became part of the group.

The Tower Hamlets campus is located on Poplar High Street. It sits about 700 meters north of Canary Wharf. It is housed in a historic building. This building was once the School of Marine Engineering and Navigation. The London County Council established it in 1906. Later, it became Poplar Technical College. This college maintained a focus on maritime studies.

Tower Hamlets College was established in 1990. It faced increasing competition from local schools. Despite this, it earned a “good” rating from Ofsted in 2013. In 2009 and 2010, the college had nearly 19000 students. A large percentage of them were adults.

In 2019, the college launched the Attlee A Level Academy. It is located at the Arbour Square Centre in Stepney. The academy is named after Clement Attlee. He was the UK’s post-war prime minister. Attlee was committed to social change. The academy aims to promote high achievement and university progression.

New City College offers a wide range of courses. These include A levels, T Levels, BTECs, and ESOL programs. It also offers higher education courses. The college prepares students for the opportunities of East London. It focuses on innovation and expert teaching.

These are Westbourne Academy in Bournemouth and the Oxford School of English. New City College is partnered with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Tottenham’s academy staff provide coaching to sports students.
