New Bethel A.M.E. Church is part of the African Methodist Episcopal Church family. The AME Church is a connectional organization. Each local church is part of a larger connection. Methodism provides an orderly system of rules. It places emphasis on a plain and simple gospel.
Episcopal refers to the form of government. The church operates under this form. It means the church is governed by Bishops, Presiding Elders, and Pastors. Pastors receive a yearly appointment. This appointment is to a charge or church. The Presiding Elder recommends them. The Bishop approves and makes the final appointment. The pastor is in full charge of the Church. The pastor is a member of all boards, organizations and clubs. New Bethel A.M.E. Church is part of the Southwest Region. It is in the 10th Episcopal District of Texas.
Three generations have been called to serve you here. New Bethel A.M.E. Church has a goal to serve you. God has blessed the church with a wonderful staff. Though small, they have pledged to give you their all. Remember that their prayers are abundant. They are always with you.
The AME Church has a rich history. It seeks to break through racial, social and economic boundaries. The church wants to save people. It wants to heal the sick. It wants to serve the community.
Rev. N. Jordan Mkwanazi is an experienced senior pastor. He has over thirty years of pastoral and ministerial experience. He is a sought-after preacher. He is also a workshop presenter and motivational speaker. Pastor Mkwanazi has preached in over twenty countries.
Pastor Mkwanazi has served the African Methodist Episcopal Church on all levels. He served as President of the Young People’s Division. This division comprised Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. He also served on the Board of Examiners. He served on the Preliminary Inquiry Committee. He was on the General Board for four years. He represented the 10th Episcopal District. He has preached at the Annual Conference. He also preached at the Episcopal District and Connectional Church.
N. Jordan Mkwanazi completed studies at Paul Quinn College. He completed graduate studies at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
He has been the Senior Pastor at Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church for 19 years. Under his leadership many ministries were organized. These include Hip Hop Ministry and Ladies in The Making Scholarship. There is also Liturgical Dance Ministry and Monday Night Prayer. Other ministries are Men of Valor and Midweek Celebration. The church also offers New Member Orientation and Noon Bible Study. Finally there is Rites Of Passage and Women 2 Women Ministry. And of course, Youth Church.
Prior to serving at Metropolitan A.M.E. Church, he pastored other churches. These include Primm Chapel A.M.E. Church and St. James A.M.E.. He also served Evangelist Chapel A.M.E. Church and Bethel A.M.E. Church.
While in Houston, he served on the Pastoral Advisory Board for the Mayor. He also served on the Board of Bay Area Habitat for Humanity.
Pastor Mkwanazi worked in the Criminal Justice System. He was a Probation Officer in Galveston County, Texas for over 10 years.
He currently serves as the President of Mkwanazi Compassion International. This nonprofit organization assists with education. It provides scholarships in Zimbabwe, Africa.
He is the founder and CEO of Agape Impact International. Agape Impact International was organized in 2022.
Pastor Mkwanazi is the author of “Loaded Gun Under Your Nose.” Pastor Mkwanazi is married to Rev. Henrietta Sullivan Mkwanazi. She serves as the Co-Pastor of Metropolitan A.M.E. Church in Austin, Texas.
