Did the walls of the Neuapostolische Kirche Bremen-Sebaldsbrück ever whisper secrets of wartime prayers? Right here, at Vahrer Straße 162 in Bremen, stands this house of worship. The Neuapostolische Kirche Bremen-Sebaldsbrück has witnessed a fascinating history. Its story began during the First World War. Between 1914 and 1918, a small group of just twelve believers began holding regular services in Sebaldsbrück. Imagine their quiet devotion amidst the turmoil of war. The Neuapostolische Kirche Bremen-Sebaldsbrück officially became a congregation on October 1st, 1929. The community grew quickly. In just five years, the congregation expanded to nearly 100 members. By 1932, they had their own dedicated space for worship. This growth continued even through the difficult years of 1933 to 1939. The Second World War brought new challenges. Services at the Neuapostolische Kirche Bremen-Sebaldsbrück were often interrupted by air raid sirens or cancelled altogether. Post-war hardships continued. The lack of coal for heating meant infrequent services during the cold winter months. A wave of refugees from the East arrived in the area after 1946, adding around 40 new members to the Neuapostolische Kirche Bremen-Sebaldsbrück. A milestone arrived on September 6, 1958, with the dedication of a new church building at its current location. Many members, even from other congregations, contributed to its construction. Just three days later, the first service was held within the new walls. Technology played a role in connecting the community. By the late 1950s, services could be broadcast to surrounding congregations. The Neuapostolische Kirche Bremen-Sebaldsbrück joined other Bremen congregations for larger services at the newly built Stadthalle in 1965. The 1970s saw the start of an annual Advent singing tradition, welcoming guests from near and far. Renovations in 1983 improved the existing space, adding features like a mother-and-child room. By 1990, satellite technology brought services from around the world to Bremen-Sebaldsbrück. Further renovations in 1997 made the church more accessible for wheelchair users. In 2004, the Bremen-Hemelingen congregation joined the Neuapostolische Kirche Bremen-Sebaldsbrück. That same year, the church celebrated its 75th anniversary with a special service led by Apostle Ekkehard Krause. Due to the aging foundation and limited space, a new church building was constructed on the same site. During construction, services were held at the former Bremen-Hemelingen church. The new Neuapostolische Kirche Bremen-Sebaldsbrück was dedicated on August 31, 2005, marking the end of a nine-month project. The Bremen-Hastedt congregation was then incorporated into the Sebaldsbrück community. The Neuapostolische Kirche Bremen-Sebaldsbrück stands as a testament to faith and resilience, a place where community and worship have intertwined for over a century.
