Have you ever felt the quiet strength of a community gathered in prayer? The Neuapostolische Kirche in Bremen stands before you a testament to faith resilience and a unique history. This building isn’t just brick and mortar. It’s a living story a legacy woven from schisms and growth from unwavering devotion and adaptation.

The Neuapostolische Kirche is part of a global network tracing its origins back to 1863 in Hamburg. A split from the Catholic Apostolic Church it initially called itself the Allgemeine Apostolische Mission. This separation wasn’t amicable a schism born from disagreements over prophecy and the calling of apostles. The Hamburg congregation along with Prophet Heinrich Geyer formed a new path.

The early years of the Neuapostolische Kirche were marked by internal conflict. Disputes arose concerning the authority of prophets versus apostles. The death of Apostle Preuss in 1878 triggered the first major schism. Prophet Geyer’s actions caused a tumultuous period with multiple conflicting claims to the apostolate. This resulted in the creation of the Apostolische Mission and Allgemeine Christliche Apostolische Mission. The Neuapostolische Kirche emerged from this chaos.

A significant development came in 1895 1896 or 1897 when the church established the office of Chief Apostle. Friedrich Krebs was appointed to this position a pivotal moment solidifying the church’s hierarchical structure. This structure differed from its predecessor the Catholic Apostolic Church which lacked a single head.

The Neuapostolische Kirche faced immense challenges during the Nazi regime. The church had to navigate a delicate balance. It needed to avoid persecution while simultaneously upholding its beliefs. Some members supported the Nazis. Others resisted silently or openly. The church’s actions during this period remain a subject of ongoing discussion and debate.

The Neuapostolische Kirche’s story is not only one of trials but also of incredible growth and expansion. It spread internationally through the missionary work of its apostles. It continues to adapt and evolve meeting the spiritual and social needs of its members across the globe. Today the Neuapostolische Kirche in Bremen stands as a powerful symbol of this enduring faith.
