Established in 1928, the National Teachers College stands as a testament to the enduring power of education in the Philippines. Right here, on this very spot, the seeds of knowledge were sown almost a century ago. The National Teachers College was the brainchild of Segundo M. Infantado, Sr. and Flora Amoranto Ylagan. They envisioned an institution dedicated to training exceptional educators, administrators, and professionals. Their vision came to life as the National Teachers College, officially opening its doors on September 29, 1928. The Department of Public Instruction granted the National Teachers College the authority to operate on April 17, 1929. This marked a significant milestone in the college’s journey. The National Teachers College has witnessed several ownership changes throughout its history. In 2018, AC Education, Inc., Ayala Corporation’s education arm, acquired a majority stake. Later, in 2019, a merger with iPeople solidified the Yuchengco Group and Ayala Corporation’s joint ownership. Through these transitions, the National Teachers College remained committed to its founding mission. The National Teachers College boasts two campuses. One is located in Quiapo, Manila, and the other in nearby Mendiola. The Mendiola campus occupies the historic St. Arnold Janssen building. The National Teachers College provides a wide range of educational programs. From preschool to higher education, the college offers opportunities for students of all ages. The college takes pride in its accredited programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Office Administration, Bachelor of Secondary Education, and Bachelor of Elementary Education. The National Teachers College also offers advanced studies, including a Doctor of Education and Master’s programs in Education and Counseling. The National Teachers College’s motto, “Ang Karunungan ay Tanglaw” meaning “Knowledge is a Torch,” speaks to its commitment to illuminating minds. The graduates of the National Teachers College, affectionately known as “Light Bearers,” carry this torch into the world, impacting communities across the Philippines and beyond.
