The National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas stands as a testament to the extraordinary courage of ordinary people. This museum honors the recipients of the United States Armed Forces Medal of Honor. It serves as a place where their stories are preserved. The museum broke ground in March 2022 and opened on March 25, 2025. It is more than just a war memorial. It is more than just a military museum. It is a humbling experience. The museum’s design itself speaks volumes. The primary building volume seemingly hovers 40 feet above the ground. It is supported by five concrete megacolumns. Each column represents a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. The dark, metallic Exhibition Hall is clad in metal panels. It evokes steel emerging from a fiery forge.
Inside, the Exhibition Hall displays micro and macro artifacts. These are interspersed within immersive storytelling presentations. These exhibits aim to inspire acts of everyday heroism among visitors. They communicate the intangible qualities that define Medal of Honor recipients. These qualities are courage, sacrifice, commitment, integrity, citizenship and patriotism.
The Rotunda of Honor serves as the main entrance. A conical oculus cut out of the Exhibition Hall allows light to penetrate into the Rotunda. Visitors can access the Exhibition Hall via glass elevators or spiral staircases.
Surrounding the Rotunda are diverse functions. To the west is the Leadership Institute. It hosts programs for teachers, students, business executives and veterans. The museum shop, café and Education and Curatorial center are located to the east. The Theater and Great Hall offer views of Mark Holtz Lake. They establish a dramatic setting for events.
The National Medal of Honor Museum Leadership Institute is central to the museum’s mission. It inspires future generations. The program explores the values of Medal of Honor recipients. It teaches how to make brave choices without regard for personal cost.
