The Naplás Lake, also known as Sunshine Lake, was once part of an industrial zone. Now, it’s a haven for recreation and the centerpiece of the Urban Forest Development Program. Robert Gutowski Architects designed this 27-meter high tower, a contemporary landmark rising above the former industrial landscape. Imagine ascending through the spruce framework, feeling the sturdy wood beneath your feet. As you climb higher, the vista unfolds, revealing the shimmering expanse of Naplás Lake, the largest standing body of water in Budapest. From this vantage point, you can trace the contours of the landscape, all the way to the Gödöllő hills to the east. These hills hold a special significance, housing the summer residence of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, affectionately known as “Sisi.” The tower’s design intentionally places you above the treetops, providing an unobstructed 360-degree panorama. This allows you to fully appreciate the remarkable revitalization of this area, from industry to leisure.
