Did you know that the Nanaksar Sikh Temple in Auckland is a branch of a sacred place near Jagraon District Ludhiana in India? It is known as Nanaksar Thath. Sant baba Nand Singh Ji established a Gurdwara there. It became an important site. Now, here in Auckland, stands a temple with its own story.

The Nanaksar Sikh Temple serves as a place of worship. It is also an educational and community center. Here a free kitchen is provided. Devotees come from all over the world. The Nanaksar That Sikh organization commissioned MCP to design the temple. It sits on a 3178 square meter site. It is 25km south of downtown Auckland.

This temple reflects the ideals of Sikhism. Its design welcomes everyone. The Nanaksar Sikh Temple’s architecture borrows from the Golden Temple at Amritsar. The ornate dome and turret structures are striking. A central dome rises 15 meters above ground level. Four smaller domed pavilions stand at the corners.

The temple has three levels and four main areas. There is a community hall. It includes a library and reading room. You will also find a kitchen and utility spaces. Priests’ accommodation is located behind the hall. The worship hall houses the Holy Book room for the Spiritual Head. Two-level car parking accommodates 96 cars. A main ceremonial bridge leads to the entrance. Two pools flank the bridge. They provide access to the double-height foyer.

While maintaining traditional characteristics, the temple incorporates modern facilities. Its design promotes the ideals of Sikhism. The Nanaksar Sikh Temple stands as a beacon. It welcomes people into its community.
