Envision children gathering their instruments. This is the Musikschule Radebeul. It is more than just a building. It’s a place where musical dreams take flight.
The Musikschule Radebeul is a branch of the larger Musikschule des Landkreises Meißen. It serves Radebeul, Moritzburg, and Radeburg. This main location sits in the Kötzschenbroda part of Radebeul. You will find the main office at Dürerstraße 1. This address is also the central hub for the entire district’s music school.
Housed within a landmarked villa, the Villa Nirwana, the Musikschule Radebeul exudes history. Ernst Kießling, a master builder, constructed it between 1894 and 1896. His father, Friedrich Ernst Kießling, a building contractor, commissioned the villa.
Later, around 1915, Frikomar Dörfler, a writer, art historian, and friend of Zille, lived here. Records show he resided at this address until his death in 1961.
The Villa Nirwana itself is noteworthy. It is a two-story building. Its irregular layout adds to its charm. A shallow hipped roof extends far beyond the walls. A side risalit with a pyramid-shaped roof stands on the Dürerstraße side. A wooden veranda graces the left side. Sandstone frames the windows. Some windows feature rounded arches.
The Musikschule Radebeul offers extensive musical education. There are programs for young children. It provides instrumental and vocal lessons. Ensembles, choirs, and orchestras enrich the learning. The school collaborates with local schools on projects. One initiative is “Jedem Kind ein Instrument.” This means “Every Child an Instrument.” There are also “Chorklassen” or choir classes. You can even participate in morning music sessions.
Soon, the Musikschule Radebeul will move to a new location. The former Kötzschenbroda post office is being renovated. Students are expected to move in by late summer 2024.
The Musikschule Radebeul is ready for the future. It preserves its rich heritage. The sounds of music will echo through its halls for years.
