Before Musholla Baitul Amin stood tall there was a simple Surau Panggung. This humble structure served as a place of worship. It stood behind H Mustofa bin H Mahpuz’s residence. H Muhammad bin H Mugheni built the Surau. He built it on land belonging to Hj Mudjenah. This was sometime in the 1920s.
The Musholla Baitul Amin we see today is a testament to community spirit. In July 1968 the Surau’s leaders decided to move and rebuild. They renamed it Musholla Al-Amin. This new structure rose on 258 square meters of land. H Asnawi bin H Thamrin generously donated the land. It was a waqf for his father H Thamrin bin Reudin.
A dedicated committee formed in August 1968. Yusuf Djohan spearheaded this effort. H Muhammad bin H Mugheni served as an advisor. H Fadhil bin Thabrani was the chairman. H Mustofa bin H Mahpuz took on the role of secretary. H Abdul Fatah bin H Achyar was the supervisor. H Abdul Ghani bin H Mugheni assisted with the project.
On August 2 1968 prominent figures laid the foundation stone. KH Rahmatullah Siddiq and KH Siddiq bin H Daud were among the ulama present. Drs Zaenuddin the Kebon Jeruk sub-district head also attended. H Umar Izzi the Sukabumi Utara village head was also there.
By December 1968 the Musholla Baitul Amin was complete. It served the community for many years. Minor renovations happened over time. In 1994 the community decided on a major upgrade. Extensive renovations took place in 1995 transforming the Musholla. A pendopo was added to the front in 2012 further enhancing the space.
The Musholla Baitul Amin has had several leaders. H Muhammad bin H Mugheni served from 1968 to 1972. H Abdul Ghani bin H Mugheni led from 1972 to 1974. H Muhammad Yasin bin Muasil served from 1974 to 1992. H Niswan bin H Muhammad’s term was from 1992 to 2009. H Muchtar bin H Mahpuz led from 2009 to 2015. Ahmad Zarkasih bin H Makmun is the current chairman.
The Musholla Baitul Amin is more than just a building. It is a living testament to faith community and perseverance. It is a place where generations have gathered. It is a symbol of enduring devotion in the heart of Jakarta.
