A flicker of hope amidst devastation. That’s what Mushola RT 008 represents. We stand here, before a simple structure. It became a sanctuary in the wake of the Kemayoran Gempol fire in May 2025. The fire ravaged Jalan Kemayoran Gempol in Kebon Kosong, Kemayoran, Jakarta Pusat. Likely caused by an electrical short circuit, the inferno impacted 11 RTs, from RT 01 to RT 011. 543 buildings were destroyed, affecting 607 families and 1,797 individuals. Mushola RT 008, along with Masjid Baiturrahman, opened its doors to the displaced. Imagine the scene here at Mushola RT 008. Families huddled together, seeking comfort and solace in shared prayer. The air thick with the smell of smoke, the murmurs of worried voices punctuated by the call to prayer. Mushola RT 008, typically a place for daily prayers, transformed into a haven for those who had lost everything. While the official records mention Mushola Al-Hasanah as a shelter, we know Mushola RT 008 played a vital role as well. This quiet place of worship became a beacon of hope, a testament to the resilience of the community. The needs were immense: food, water, basic necessities. Mushola RT 008 became a distribution point, a hub for aid. Though the fire left a trail of destruction, it also revealed the strength of human compassion. Mushola RT 008 stands as a reminder of this difficult time, a symbol of community solidarity in the face of adversity.
