Before you stands Mushola Asy-Syuhada. What does the name Asy-Syuhada even mean? It carries a profound meaning: “those who died fighting in the path of Allah”. This name is fitting for this mosque in Jagakarsa South Jakarta.
Mushola Asy-Syuhada is precisely located on Jl Tanjung Barat Selatan Gg Seratus. The mosque’s beauty remains uncompromised. It stands nestled among the homes of local residents.
Imagine the mosque’s cream and green hues. Picture a charming yet grand structure. It showcases a Middle Eastern or Ottoman Turkish architectural style. This is evident from its dominant domes and minarets. Five green domes adorn the mosque. The main dome rises from the building’s center. Four smaller domes emerge from each corner. A sturdy minaret towers on the mosque’s left side.
The arched terrace entrance adds to the Middle Eastern aura. Its pattern resembles the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. Other spaces feature trapezium-patterned rosters.
Inside Mushola Asy-Syuhada the main prayer area is on the first floor. It is surrounded by a U-shaped veranda. The mezzanine on the second floor provides additional space. It also forms a U-shape. The total floor area is approximately 700 square meters. It can accommodate an estimated 1500 worshipers.
The floors are covered with green speckled carpets. They include shaft lines over 50x50cm ceramic tiles. The mihrab stands at the center of the altar. It features a rectangular space with an arched edge like the terrace entrance. The niche measures 4 meters wide 6 meters high and 3 meters deep. Carved wood with rhombus motifs covers the area outside the arch. The upper part displays calligraphy in circles. “Allah” is on the right and “Prophet Muhammad SAW” on the left. Black ceramics line the altar walls. This reminds one of the Kaaba’s color.
Inside the mihrab a prayer rug awaits the imam. There is an antique cupboard clock and a mimbar. The mimbar resembles a miniature mosque. Its front is covered in glass with the kalimat tauhid calligraphy. Above the mimbar an LED digital clock displays prayer times. It also shows Islamic messages including the seven daily sunnahs of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
A square void in the front center allows a view into the dome’s inner curve. This is the interior’s focal point. The 8-meter diameter curve is adorned with calligraphy. It follows a floral pattern in green blue pink brown yellow and white. The center displays the calligraphy of “Allah”. It is surrounded by petals with Asma’ul Husna calligraphy. Twenty-four stained glass windows provide natural light. They alternate between calligraphy of Allah and Prophet Muhammad SAW. Selected verses from the Quran are painted below these windows in white against a green background. A luxurious three-tiered crystal chandelier completes the scene. Yellow calligraphy with a brown base encircles the void. It runs beneath the second-floor railing. Twelve fixed windows surround the room. They feature raised gold calligraphy of Allah and Prophet Muhammad SAW.
To ensure comfort Mushola Asy-Syuhada is equipped with four split AC units. No less than 15 high-powered wall fans are also here. This is a truly beautiful place of worship.
