Museum Taman Prasasti also houses the original coffins of Indonesia’s first president and vice president, Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta. Originally, Kali Krukut river flowed near the cemetery, serving as a waterway for transporting the deceased. Following Indonesia’s independence, the cemetery transitioned into a Christian burial ground. Years later, in 1975, the cemetery gates closed to make way for government offices, with remaining bodies moved to Tanah Kusir Cemetery. Today, Museum Taman Prasasti stands as a captivating open-air museum, preserving a unique piece of Jakarta’s past.
