The museum was once Nasution’s residence. He lived here with his family from 1949 until his death in 2000. Now, it is a place where we can learn about his life and the history of Indonesia.
Inside the Grand General Dr. A. H. Nasution Memorial Museum you will find many interesting things. There are daggers, swords, and guns that belonged to Nasution. His military uniforms are also on display. Dioramas and photos show important moments in his life. Much of the furniture has been preserved. This includes his bedroom.
One of the most interesting stories recounts the attempted kidnapping of Nasution in 1965. Intruders broke into his house. They were part of the 30 September Movement. Nasution escaped. Sadly, his daughter Ade Irma Suryani Nasution was killed. First Lieutenant Pierre Tendean was also murdered.
The museum shows a replica of his wife holding their daughter. It is quite emotional. Outside, you can see a statue of Nasution. It stands beside two cannons. You can also view a monument summarizing key moments in his military life. His vehicle is also on display.
The Grand General Dr. A. H. Nasution Memorial Museum is not large. However, it recounts important and traumatic events. These events shaped Indonesia. The museum is located on Jalan Teuku Umar No. 40 in Menteng. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday. The hours are 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Admission is free. There is a donation box.
