Stepping inside the Museo Mundial del Tango, one can almost hear the echoes of bandoneons and the rhythmic tapping of tango shoes. From its humble beginnings in the mid-1800s to its evolution through the 20th century, the exhibits chronicle every step. You’ll trace the tango’s journey through the eras of De Caro, Gardel, Contursi, Discépolo, Pugliese, Goyeneche, Mores, and Piazzolla, right up to the avant-garde. The Museo Mundial del Tango houses a treasure trove of artifacts. Some of the most fascinating items include a hat worn by the legendary Carlos Gardel, handwritten musical scores, and even Agustín Bardi’s piano. Original records, typewriters, and other memorabilia bring the golden age of tango to life. The museum also acknowledges tango’s influence on other art forms. Paintings, sculptures, and various artworks inspired by the dance and its characters fill the halls. In the Tango Glories Olimpo Hall, enlarged portraits honor the icons of tango. This hall, equipped with a stage and chairs, hosts various tango performances and activities. A film about Gardel plays in the background, immersing visitors further into the tango world.
