Carved into the limestone, the face of a muse stares out at you. This is Musenstein 8, one of nine “Muse Stones” along the Mnemosyne WasserKunstWeg. The Mnemosyne WasserKunstWeg, or Water Art Trail, traces the now-hidden path of the Kaitzbach stream through Dresden. Musenstein 8, created in 2000 by artist Christa Donner, represents one of the nine daughters of Mnemosyne. The Dresden Secession 89 commissioned this artistic journey. Each Musenstein, like this one, incorporates the face of a muse. They are meant to evoke the spirit of the Kaitzbach. The trail starts at the stream’s source and ends at Rathenauplatz, near its confluence with the Elbe. Musenstein 8 stands as a testament to the hidden waterway. It invites you to imagine the Kaitzbach flowing beneath your feet. This artistic endeavor breathes life into Dresden’s forgotten waters.
