Nine muses whisper along the Kaitzbach. Here at Musenstein 1, we encounter the first of their stony tributes. Musenstein 1 is more than just a block of sandstone. It’s part of the Mnemosyne WasserKunstWeg, a path of art and remembrance. Created by Christa Donner in 2000, these nine Musensteine follow the Kaitzbach, each bearing the face of a muse. Mnemosyne, the mother of the muses and the source of all memory, lends her name to this water-art path. The project began with the Dresdner Sezession 89. It evolved into a permanent installation, weaving art and the urban landscape together. The Kaitzbach, once hidden and forgotten, now speaks through these artistic voices. Each Musenstein, like this one, serves as a touchstone, reminding us of the cultural and ecological importance of water in our city. From its source to its meeting with the Elbe, the Kaitzbach flows through Dresden. It carries not only water but stories. The Musensteine invite us to listen. They invite us to remember. They connect us to the spirit of Dresden.
