Officially in the Matn District of the Mount Lebanon Governorate, Dekwaneh is primarily known for its Maronite Christian community. But beneath the surface of modern life lies a treasure trove of archaeological discoveries. Two key sites, Dekwaneh I and Dekwaneh II, have yielded remarkable finds. Dekwaneh I, nestled northwest of Mar Roucos monastery, revealed Acheulean and Middle Paleolithic tools. Dekwaneh II, situated in the ravine below the monastery, unveiled tools from the Heavy Neolithic period like axes, picks and scrapers.
