What secrets does Mundelstrup hold? Mundelstrup is a village in eastern Jutland, Denmark. It’s about 13 kilometers from Aarhus. Mundelstrup has a rich history, shaped by both agriculture and industry. The village’s western part grew along the old Aarhus-Viborg road. Here, businesses like a shop and a bakery thrived until the late 20th century. In 1994, a new highway bypassed Mundelstrup, altering its character. The eastern part of Mundelstrup, known as Mundelstrup Stationsby, developed around the train station built in 1862. This station connected Mundelstrup to Aarhus and Randers. The Mundelstrup Fertilizer and Sulphuric Acid Factory, established in 1871, became a major employer. It significantly contributed to the area’s economy until its closure in 1923. The factory’s legacy, however, included substantial soil contamination. This pollution necessitated a major cleanup effort, costing 32 million kroner and lasting into the 1990s. Despite the challenges, Mundelstrup persevered. It transformed from a small farming village to a hub of industry and services, adapting to the changing times. The village sits near the East Jutlandic ice edge line, in a gently rolling landscape. North of the village lies the Egå tunnel valley. Mundelstrup offers a blend of old and new, a testament to its resilient spirit.
