The Münchner Theater für Kinder has a rich history. It began in 1967 under the direction of Heinz Redmann. For its first ten years the theater performed in Leopoldstrasse. In 1977, it moved to its current location. This building was once the Regina-Kino. The opening performance here was “Pippi Longstrumpf’s Adventures”.
Step inside and let your imagination soar. Professional actors bring classic stories to life. You might see fairytales by the Brothers Grimm. Perhaps stories by Astrid Lindgren or Janosch. The program changes often. There are up to 14 different productions each year.
Heinz Redmann managed the theater for over five decades. He poured his heart and soul into it. Since the 2018/2019 season, Michael Tasche has been the artistic director. He is an actor director and author.
The Münchner Theater für Kinder offers something for everyone. Especially for children aged 4 to 10. The theater presents about 16 different plays. These are performed by professional actors. The stage designs are imaginative. The costumes are elaborate.
The theater building itself has a story. It was built in 1915/1916 by Adalbert Pfaller. He was a master coppersmith. Architect Oswald Schiller designed the building. The building is still owned by the family. In 1975, a fire damaged it severely. But it was restored. The building is a protected monument with Jugendstil features.
In 2022, the Münchner Theater für Kinder celebrated its 55th anniversary. It became a non-profit GmbH in 2014. A support association was founded. The theater even had a mobile stage. From July 2020 it toured the city. It also visited the surrounding countryside. This brought performances to schools and kindergartens.
