Considering a place where elderly Munich residents find not just care but a home? That’s MÜNCHENSTIFT. It stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to its senior citizens. MÜNCHENSTIFT is more than just a group of residences. It represents Munich’s dedication to providing reliable support and a sense of belonging to its aging population.

The story of MÜNCHENSTIFT began 25 years ago. At that time Munich decided against privatizing its 13 municipal retirement homes. This decision ensured that the city maintained control over the quality of care provided to its elderly residents. Today MÜNCHENSTIFT operates nine care and nursing homes and five supported residences across Munich. They offer a range of services. These services include permanent care, assistance in everyday life and accessible apartments for active seniors.

MÜNCHENSTIFT aims to create an atmosphere where residents feel at home. The focus is on cozy surroundings and individual care. Personal preferences and needs are always a top priority. The organization understands the importance of diversity-sensitive care. It strives to recognize and cater to the unique needs of each individual. This includes considering their social and ethnic origin, gender identity, culture, religion and lifestyle. MÜNCHENSTIFT even has a concept for LGBTI-sensitive care. It addresses the specific needs and requirements of LGBTI seniors.

MÜNCHENSTIFT is a non-profit organization. It is wholly owned by the City of Munich. It operates independently with around 3000 residents and 2000 employees. Besides the 13 stationary facilities it also encompasses five ambulatory care services and two day care centers. This represents a significant 30 percent market share in Munich.

MÜNCHENSTIFT also focuses on innovation and employee well-being. It is one of the best-paying employers in elderly care in Germany. The starting salary for a skilled nurse is around 3500 Euro. There is also a Munich allowance of 270 Euro per month. The company uses small teams to care for the same residents. This fosters familiarity and trust. Digitalization is also a priority. It aims to save time on documentation. This allows employees to spend more time on direct care.

MÜNCHENSTIFT is planning new facilities. These facilities will implement new concepts. One is located on Franz-Nißl-Straße in Allach. Another is replacing the senior citizens’ home on Tauernstraße in Harlaching. A further home on Herzog-Ernst-Platz in Sendling is planned. It will offer a discrimination-free environment for older lesbian women and gay men.

MÜNCHENSTIFT provides day care for the elderly. This service is designed to support families who want their loved ones to stay at home as long as possible. It gives them care and assistance during the day. A familiar living environment is particularly important for people with dementia. MÜNCHENSTIFT offers a range of activities. Residents can spend their time in the community kitchen or activity room.

So as you pass by MÜNCHENSTIFT remember that it is a place of care, community and respect. It is a place where Munich’s elderly residents can live their lives with dignity and joy. MÜNCHENSTIFT embodies the spirit of Munich. It is a city that cares for all its citizens.
