Mullauna College is a public co-educational high school in Mitcham. It serves years 7 to 12. The college sits at the corner of Mitcham and Springfield Roads. Around 500 local and international students attend. Harald Ruff is the Principal. Jeff McMillin and Margaret Graham serve as Assistant Principals.
Let’s step back in time. The year is 1989. Mitcham High School Mitcham Technical School and Donvale High School joined forces. Mullauna College was born. Initially the college operated on three campuses. It was a logistical challenge. In 1994 a decision was made to consolidate. The Donvale campus closed in 1995. Students in years 7 to 10 moved to the Mitcham campus. The VCE campus on Dunlavin Road remained open until 1996.
Mullauna is a Koori word. It means together. The college motto is Success Through Learning Together. This reflects the belief that excellence comes from partnership. Students teachers and parents must work together. The goal is the best outcomes for all students.
Mullauna College values academic success. It wants students to value learning and creativity. The college encourages students to strive for their personal best. It aims to equip graduates with knowledge skills and confidence. They will become independent learners ready for adult life.
The Student Representative Council is active here. Mr McMillin heads it. The SRC organizes events. These include free dress days band events barbecues and tree plantings. They also advocate for better student facilities.

The original buildings were built in the Light Timber Construction style. This design helped speed up school construction in the 1950s. The buildings have since been substantially remodeled.

Courts support basketball tennis badminton table tennis volleyball and netball. Computer rooms and classroom pods extend learning. The library offers many books and resources.
Mullauna welcomes international students primarily from China. They complete year 12. Then they can apply to Australian universities. Transition staff help Chinese students adjust. They aim to make students comfortable with Australian education.

In 2017 Mullauna’s year 12 students achieved excellent VCE results. A high percentage achieved ATAR scores above 70. Some even achieved perfect study scores. Many graduates go on to university.
Students can participate in many co-curricular activities. These include leadership camps debating and sports. The visual and performing arts thrive. Studio Arts work has been selected for exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. The Stage Band has excelled at the Victorian Schools Music Festival.

The new building works are complete. They provide state-of-the-art learning spaces. These include a visual arts and technology precinct a makerspace and a junior learning center.
