Why does Mullalys Bridge have that strange dip in the middle? Mullalys Bridge is a road bridge. It crosses Lake Mulwala, which is formed by a weir on the Murray River. The bridge connects the border towns of Yarrawonga in Victoria and Mulwala in New South Wales. The bridge you see today was built in 1924 and replaced an older wooden bridge dating back to 1891. The strange dip in the bridge is not intentional. It was caused by miscommunication between the Victorian and New South Wales governments during its construction. Both states began work on their respective halves of the bridge without properly coordinating their efforts. When it came time to join the two sections in the middle, they didn’t line up properly. This resulted in the need for a rather awkward dip to connect the two halves.
