Is it just me or does the name Mühleholz evoke images of a quaint mill nestled among trees? Mühleholz, also known as Möliholz, is a district within Vaduz. It sits a few kilometers from the Swiss border.

Mühleholz lies south of Schaan and north of Vaduz. The Schaanstrasse road crosses it. This road connects Vaduz and Schaan.

Mühleholz was first mentioned in 1482. Until Liechtenstein’s border revision in 1952, part of it belonged to Schaan. The Mölibach stream once flowed here. It became an important commercial location from the Middle Ages until the mid-20th century.

The stream was later culverted. Today, Mühleholz houses the Liechtenstein Grammar School. You can also find a secondary school and a shopping center here.

Speaking of shopping, the Mühleholzmarkt shopping center is located here. It offers 160 free parking spaces. Inside, the Tang Bistro offers coffee and cake. An ATM is available for cash withdrawals. A bus stop is conveniently located outside the building.

For leisure, the Mühleholz swimming pool is a popular destination. It is Liechtenstein’s only artificial outdoor swimming pool. It features slides, a wave pool and diving boards. There is also a children’s pool and a sports pool. Massage showers offer relaxation. A restaurant is nearby. A large grass area provides space for basketball and beach volleyball. Locals often meet here during lunch breaks or after work. Holidaymakers find it ideal for relaxing. It is open from June to September.

Did you know that Mühleholz even had its own football club? It was called Kickers Mühleholz.

Mühleholz may be small. Yet, it offers a blend of history, education, recreation, and commerce. It is a vibrant part of Liechtenstein. From its humble beginnings to its modern amenities, Mühleholz has evolved. So, next time you are in Liechtenstein, take a moment to explore Mühleholz. Experience its unique charm.
