Across the sprawling metropolis of London, a surprising oasis awaits: Mudchute Park & Farm. Mudchute Park & Farm isn’t your typical London park. This 32-acre haven combines rolling green hills, a thriving farm, and breathtaking views of Canary Wharf. Mudchute Park & Farm stands as a testament to the power of community. In the 1970s, the Greater London Council planned to build high-rise housing on this land. The local community rallied together, determined to preserve this unique space. Their efforts led to the creation of the Mudchute Association and the birth of this urban farm and park in 1977. Mudchute Park & Farm is home to over 100 animals, many of them rare British breeds. From pigs and sheep to llamas and alpacas, a diverse array of creatures graze in the fields. Children can delight in the Pets Corner, petting rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals. Don’t miss the chance to witness the smaller animals being tucked in for the night around 4pm. Mudchute also played a crucial role during World War II. Anti-aircraft guns were positioned here to protect London from German bombing raids. Three of the original gun sites remain, repurposed as animal enclosures. One site has been fully restored, complete with an exhibition detailing Mudchute’s wartime history. Beyond the farm, Mudchute Park offers a variety of landscapes to explore. Wander through woodlands, stroll across meadows, and observe the diverse wildlife that call this park home. Enjoy the fresh air and the tranquil atmosphere. Mudchute Park & Farm is a truly special place. It’s a place where city life melts away, replaced by the sights, sounds, and smells of the countryside. A visit here is a reminder that even in the heart of a bustling metropolis, nature can thrive, and community can flourish.
