Established in 1984 MRSM Balik Pulau stands proudly on Penang Island. Its opening wasn’t without its quirks. The first students Form 3 actually arrived in 1982. They were temporarily housed at other MRSMs. Form 2 students followed a year later. The school wasn’t entirely finished when the first Form 1 students arrived on March 24 1984.
MRSM Balik Pulau’s unique history is rich. In its early years classes were divided into Science Social Science Language and Mathematics. Students moved between classrooms for different subjects. The first student council elections took place in 1985. A significant event shaped the school in 1986. MRSM Kulim became a college. All Form 4 students from MRSM Balik Pulau were transferred to other MRSMs. This created space for students from MRSM Kulim.
