Parking directly outside your apartment? At the Mountain Dwellings in Copenhagen, this dream becomes a reality. This unique residential building, also known as Bjerget (Danish for “The Mountain”), seamlessly integrates 80 apartments with a multi-story car park. Designed by the innovative Bjarke Ingels Group, the Mountain Dwellings offers a unique living experience. Imagine driving up the sloping, internal parking garage directly to your apartment level. A special ski-lift style elevator, made in Switzerland, transports you and your car between the parking levels within this mountain-like structure. The parking garage isn’t just a functional space; it’s an artistic marvel. The ceilings soar up to 16 meters high, showcasing a vibrant color scheme inspired by the iconic Danish designer Verner Panton. The colors shift from earthy greens to sky blues, creating a psychedelic atmosphere. And don’t miss the massive mural of Himalayan peaks on the exterior, a breathtaking image created by strategically perforating the aluminum panels that protect the garage. Inside, murals by street artist Victor Ash depict scenes of wildlife reclaiming a world of wrecked cars. But the true magic of the Mountain Dwellings lies in the apartments themselves. Each apartment features an L-shaped floor plan, maximizing space and light. And the pièce de résistance? A private roof garden, located on the roof of the apartment below. These “backyards” offer a tranquil escape from the urban bustle, a blend of suburban serenity and city living. The untreated wood facades of the apartments enhance the organic feel of these gardens. Even the flowerbeds are strategically designed, acting as planter railings to provide privacy. The planting scheme changes with the seasons, transforming the appearance of the “mountainside” throughout the year.
