Have you ever walked past a church and wondered about the stories hidden within its walls? Standing before Mount Sinai Church of God in Christ in Dallas, you can practically feel the weight of history. Mount Sinai Church of God in Christ is more than just a place of worship; it’s a testament to the unwavering faith and resilience of its congregation.

The church’s beginnings are steeped in history. It started as a group of God-fearing individuals who gathered in the sanctuary of the Judea Baptist Church in 1971. The late Rev. Floyd D. Harris presided, and they determined to create a new church of their own. The late Dr. U. S. Cornelius was called to lead the congregation, and they adopted the name “Mount Sinai Baptist Church” (Missionary being understood).

The church has since undergone several relocations, each time finding a more suitable home. They moved to a ranch-style house of God on Pemberton Hill Road in 1973. In 1993 they found a beautiful, landscaped church home on Lake June Road. This was a momentous occasion, and the congregation celebrated their new home with services and dedications.

Throughout its journey, Mount Sinai has seen both joys and challenges. The members united in their faith, finding strength through trials and tribulations. Their determination to build a strong community of faith shines through in their perseverance. They faced the loss of their beloved pastor, Dr. U. S. Cornelius, in 1999. Yet, they continued to move forward, calling Dr. Stephen L. Jones to lead them in 2000. Under Dr. Jones’s leadership, they achieved another significant milestone by retiring the debt on their church home in 2002.

As you stand before Mount Sinai Church of God in Christ, you feel a sense of awe at their journey. Their story is one of faith, resilience, and community. There’s a sense of quiet strength radiating from the building, a reminder of their commitment to God and their enduring spirit.
