Mount Greenwood once had many saloons. This led to a movement to make it a dry area. To prevent this citizens incorporated Mount Greenwood as a village. Twenty years later in 1927, the community voted to be annexed into Chicago. They wanted better services. The Great Depression delayed those services. The Works Progress Administration installed sewers in 1936.
