Picture a small group, just thirteen souls, gathered together in a spirit of faith and fellowship. Among them was Pastor William Scott, the driving force behind this fledgling congregation. Driven by a vision, Pastor Scott sought a permanent home for his flock. He found it at the corner of 40th and Bushmore, a church and parsonage previously owned by the Freewill Methodist Church. Securing the property was a testament to Pastor Scott’s persuasive passion and the generosity of his congregation. The Freewill Methodist Church, impressed by Pastor Scott’s dedication, agreed to finance the purchase themselves. Imagine the relief and joy when, after a three-month grace period, the church managed a $5,000 down payment! The mortgage was paid off in an astonishing 23 months, a testament to their faith and commitment. Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ continued to thrive under Pastor Scott’s inspiring leadership, its membership burgeoning. By 1983, the need for a larger space led them to acquire the Rosemont Baptist Church on North 49th Street. It was a bittersweet yet joyous occasion when the congregation, their hearts full of gratitude, paraded from their first humble home to their new sanctuary. Again, they witnessed a miracle – the mortgage was paid off in just 24 months! Mount Calvary Church of God in Christ stands today as a beacon of faith, a testament to the power of community and unyielding belief.
