A gift from across the ocean. That’s the Mother Earth Germany sculpture. It stands before you a symbol of environmental hope. This majestic artwork is the first Mother Earth sculpture in Europe. Artist Barton Rubenstein gifted it to Germany. He wanted to inspire action for climate and environmental protection.
The Mother Earth Germany sculpture arrived in Bonn in early May 2020. Its installation was delayed. Technical issues caused this delay. Finally the sculpture found its home. It stands proudly on the Rhine River promenade. The sculpture overlooks the UN campus. This is highly symbolic. Bonn is a UN city after all. It houses numerous UN organizations including the UNFCCC.
Originally Rubenstein wanted the sculpture placed at the UN Plaza. This was suggested in 2017. However the city’s art commission rejected it. They cited existing high-quality artworks nearby. Artistic reasons also played a role. The commission’s decision was communicated to the German embassy in Washington DC.
Despite the initial setback the sculpture found a new home. BonnVisio Real Estate GmbH supported its installation. The sculpture sits on a grassy area. It’s in front of the Rohmchle restaurant. This location ensures the sculpture enjoys plenty of sunshine. It offers stunning views of the river and beyond.
The sculpture’s design is quite unique. It’s a human profile. The profile appears to gaze towards the UN campus. Its gaze then extends downriver to the connecting oceans. It conveys a powerful message. This message of global interconnectedness and shared responsibility for the environment.
The Mother Earth Germany sculpture is more than just art. It’s a catalyst for change. The installation involved local participation. More than 20 Bonn schools and environmental groups participated. The project incorporated colorful parachutes. This served as a symbol for saving the planet. The sculpture has generated many positive actions.
Visitors are encouraged to take photos. They’re asked to share their images on social media. They should use the hashtags #MotherEarthSculpture and #ForNature. The artwork continues to inspire. It unites people in their dedication to environmental action. It serves as a constant reminder of our planet’s fragility and the urgent need for collective effort. The Mother Earth Germany Sculpture is a powerful addition to Bonn’s landscape. It serves as a beacon of hope for a more sustainable future.
