The Mosquée d’Orly a place of worship and community hub stands proudly. It’s the second largest mosque in the Val-de-Marne department. It’s a testament to years of effort. The Association Socio-Culturelle et Cultuelle des Musulmans d’Orly (ASCM) spearheaded its creation. Their dedication began in the early 1990s. The dream slowly took shape. By 1996 concrete plans emerged.
Securing land and permits from the Orly municipality proved a challenge. The community’s perseverance paid off. In November 1997 they received a 660m² plot. It lies at Orly’s entrance bordering Choisy-le-Roi. The land eventually became the ASCM’s property.
In 2002 the Mosquée d’Orly opened its doors. That same year the ‘BADR’ school launched. It teaches Arabic to people of all levels. Further expansion followed. An Islamic Sciences Institute opened in 2008. A library and media center were added the following year. In 2010 an Institute for the learning of the Holy Quran was established.
The Mosquée d’Orly is more than just a mosque. It’s an educational and cultural center. Inside are prayer halls for men and women. There are ablution rooms offices and classrooms. The ASCM’s website is regularly updated. They are among the few mosques in France to livestream Friday sermons.
