The climb itself is 8 kilometers. It takes about three hours. The highest point is 976 meters. It’s a moderate to difficult hike. The trail is well-marked. Early on there’s a fork. The path to the right leads to Pico da Tijuca. That’s the highest peak in the whole park. Keep going straight to reach Morro da Cocanha. Along the way are two more forks. The first leads to Morro do Archer. The second is past two small caves. These are Gruta do Navio and Gruta do Papagaio. This fork leads to Bico do Papagaio. It’s a beautiful spot. Up to the second fork the hike is easy. After that it gets steeper.

Finally you reach the summit of Morro da Cocanha. It’s a clearing at the mountaintop. A large rock sits beside it. People climb this rock for photos. The panoramic view is incredible. From here you can see Bico do Papagaio. Pedra do Conde Pedra da Gávea and Pedra Bonita are all visible. The iconic Christ the Redeemer statue is also in view. It sits atop Corcovado Mountain.
