Founded in February 1924 Mordialloc College initially welcomed 148 students. They temporarily occupied the Mechanics Institute Hall on Albert Street Mordialloc. That same year the school’s name changed to Mordialloc Carrum District High School. It was officially opened by Cr Roy Beardsworth of the Borough of Carrum. Later it became known as Mordialloc Chelsea High School.

Mordialloc College’s story is one of adaptation and growth. Imagine the hustle and bustle of those first years. Students and teachers navigating a temporary space. The redbrick building at the current site was completed in 1928. It boasted eight classrooms. Subjects included commercial studies domestic science woodwork and metalworking. This reflected the practical needs of the time.

The college continually evolved. In 1997 Mordialloc College advertised new and refurbished facilities. It showcased its commitment to improvement. A significant step was the introduction of accredited first aid and CPR training in 1999. Twenty students enrolled in this two-year program. Graduates earned a bronze-level Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. This highlights the college’s dedication to well-rounded education.

Despite challenges such as state government budget cuts in 2011 Mordialloc College persevered. Funding for VCAL programs was reduced. The college however doubled the size of its VCAL programs. This demonstrated resilience and commitment to vocational education.

Today Mordialloc College embraces innovative learning environments. Instructors employ explicit meta-cognitive strategies. They strive to move away from simply teaching to the text. This approach is reflected in the college’s spatial redesign. It aims to better suit the needs of its students and teaching methods. Mordialloc College continues to evolve striving for excellence in all aspects of education. The college’s legacy is a testament to its enduring commitment to its students and community. Its history is a journey of growth adaptation and a commitment to providing a high-quality education for generations of students. This is Mordialloc College. A story of perseverance and progress.
