“A poet’s soul immortalized in bronze” that’s the feeling I get when gazing at the Monumento Severino de Azevedo Statue. Right here we stand before a tribute to a man of words, a man of action and a true son of Brazil.

The Monumento Severino de Azevedo Statue commemorates Severino Jardelino de Azevedo. He was more than just a name. He was a poet and a politician. He lived from 1897 to 1982.

Severino de Azevedo was born in Areia, Paraíba. He was a multifaceted individual. He was involved in agriculture and industry. He even had a network manufacturing company on his property. His life was deeply rooted in the Paraíba region.

Azevedo’s political career began in 1945. He joined the Social Democratic Party PSD. Later, in 1949, he became affiliated with the Liberator Party PL. He actively supported José Américo de Almeida for Governor in 1950.

In 1951, Severino de Azevedo was elected councilor. He represented the PSD-PL coalition. He became President of the Municipal Chamber of Areia. This was between 1952 and 1953. In June 1955, he was again elected President of the Chamber. He took office as Mayor. He replaced Armando de Freitas who was on leave. He remained in office until November 30, 1955.

But Severino de Azevedo was also a poet. In 1961, he moved to Recife. He dedicated himself to his poetic talents. In 1982, during the Summer Festival of Areia, he launched his book of poems. The book was named Fragmentos poesias.

His poems offer a window into his soul. They reveal his deep spiritual concerns. His work tries to bridge the gap between past and present. He was a man connected to his region. He loved God, life, and the stars.

They say a fulfilled man plants a tree. He has a child and writes a book. Severino Jardelino de Azevedo achieved all of this. His legacy remains an indelible mark on Brazilian history. The Monumento Severino de Azevedo Statue stands as a testament to his life. It celebrates his contributions to politics and poetry. It immortalizes his spirit for generations to come. Take a moment to reflect on his journey. Consider the impact one person can have on their community.
