Monumen Pancasila Sakti

Amidst the bustling city of Jakarta, Monumen Pancasila Sakti stands as a stark reminder of a pivotal moment in Indonesian history. This monument, also known as the Lubang Buaya, isn’t just a structure; it’s a time capsule transporting us back to the tumultuous events of 1965. Monumen Pancasila Sakti was conceived by President Soeharto. It was built upon 14.6 hectares of land. The monument serves as a memorial to the Pahlawan Revolusi, the seven heroes who lost their lives defending the nation’s ideology, Pancasila, against the communist threat. Their names are etched in the nation’s memory: Ahmad Yani, R. Suprapto, M.T. Haryono, Siswondo Parman, DI Panjaitan, Sutoyo Siswomiharjo, and Pierre Tendean. Monumen Pancasila Sakti houses a collection of artifacts from that era. You can see the original uniforms worn by these heroes, frozen in time, a poignant reminder of their sacrifice. The monument complex comprises several key sites. The Museum Pengkhianatan PKI (Museum of PKI Treachery) provides a chilling account of the events leading up to the G30S/PKI. The old well, the Lubang Buaya itself, is a somber centerpiece. This was where the bodies of the seven heroes were discovered. The Rumah Penyiksaan (Torture House), a former school, offers a glimpse into the brutal methods employed. Here, some of the heroes were tortured and coerced into signing false confessions. The Pos Komando (Command Post), once owned by a local resident named Haji Sueb, was used by the leaders of the G30S/PKI movement. The Dapur Umum (Communal Kitchen) reveals the logistical side of the operation. It served as a place where meals were prepared for the members of the G30S/PKI. The Museum Paseban houses dioramas depicting key events, such as the clandestine meetings, the abduction of General Ahmad Yani, and the eventual retrieval of the heroes’ bodies. Monumen Pancasila Sakti also offers a glimpse into the personal lives of the heroes. The Ruang Relik (Relic Room) displays personal items, including the clothes they wore on that fateful day and the aqualung used to retrieve their bodies from the well. A theater screens a documentary film about the G30S/PKI, from the abductions to the burial of the heroes at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery.
