There’s an indoor ice skating rink clay tennis courts and a public swimming pool. The annual Canada Day parade is a major event. It involves local organizations and often includes impromptu water fights. The town also holds a unique annual event the Garbage Bowl. Every January 1 since 1950 teams play a football game in the cold. Proceeds go to charity. This speaks volumes about the spirit of the community. Moreover Montreal West is known for its excellent schools. Royal West Academy is a highly-rated Anglophone high school. Elizabeth Ballantyne Elementary School and Edinburgh Elementary School offer English and French immersion programs.
