Did the name Montevideo ever spark a curious image in your mind, maybe of a far-off South American city? Well, here in Marseille, Montevideo represents something entirely different. Montevideo is a vibrant hub of contemporary creation and artist residencies. It fosters artistic research. Montevideo has a rich history here in Marseille. Unfortunately, the historic site closed its doors in the autumn of 2023. But the spirit of Montevideo lives on. Some of its activities moved to the Convent de La Cömerie. They offer a monthly program of readings, meetings, residencies, and even DJ sets. These events take place in the convent’s outdoor spaces and various partner venues. Montevideo also publishes the Revue IF twice a year. This publication is dedicated to contemporary arts and writing. So, while the physical location may have changed, Montevideo continues to enrich Marseille’s cultural landscape. It nurtures artistic expression and exploration.
