Did you ever hear of a town built on salt? Monte Chingolo’s story begins in 1815. Juan Manuel de Rosas established a salting operation here. This seemingly humble beginning laid the foundation for the town we know as Monte Chingolo. Monte Chingolo isn’t just about salt. Its history is etched with industrial growth and conflict. A railway station opened in 1927. This spurred development. Abattoirs and industries sprung up. Monte Chingolo became a bustling hub. But peace was shattered in 1975. The ERP, a Trotskyist guerrilla group, attacked the Battalion 601 Arsenal in Monte Chingolo. The battle left over 100 dead. This event scarred Monte Chingolo. It became a stark reminder of Argentina’s turbulent past. Later, a highway project intended to connect Buenos Aires to Avellaneda backfired. The unfinished construction left a trail of empty lots. These lots remain as a visible scar on Monte Chingolo’s landscape. Despite these setbacks, Monte Chingolo perseveres. It stands as a testament to its resilient community. Today, Monte Chingolo is a vibrant town in the Greater Buenos Aires area. It holds a unique place in Argentine history.
