On September 6th, 1953, a small gathering of thirteen adults marked the humble beginnings of Monash Christian Church. Originally known as Glen Waverley Church of Christ, this vibrant community first met for communion in a home on Little Street in Glen Waverley. Monash Christian Church quickly outgrew this space. Services were temporarily held in a tent erected on Kings Way. Imagine the scene. A small but determined group of believers huddled together under canvas, their faith the cornerstone of their growing community. In 1955, Monash Christian Church found a permanent home at its current location. The first chapel was opened and dedicated, a testament to the congregation’s unwavering commitment. The church building has evolved over the decades, mirroring the growth of the community it serves. A major renovation in 1990 brought an enlarged auditorium and expanded office space. This expansion also facilitated the growth of the New Horizons Bookshop and Coffee Shop, enriching the church’s offerings. Monash Christian Church continues to thrive. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith and community, its story woven into the fabric of Glen Waverley’s history. The church’s 70th anniversary, celebrated on September 6th, 2023, serves as a poignant reminder of the small gathering that blossomed into a vital spiritual hub.
