Can you hear the faint melody carried on the wind? It seems to be beckoning us closer to Mollenhauer & Söhne.

This Kassel workshop stands as one of Germany’s oldest for woodwind instruments. Mollenhauer & Söhne has been crafting exceptional instruments for generations. Since 1864, when Gustav Mollenhauer established his woodwind shop here in Kassel, the family’s dedication has been unwavering.

The story began even earlier. Johann Andreas Mollenhauer founded his first workshop in Fulda in 1822. He crafted instruments for the royal court. His instruments soon gained fame.

Gustav Mollenhauer’s legacy continues today. Gerhard Schaub and his son Tino Schaub now manage the firm. Both are licensed master craftsmen. They maintain the high standards of Mollenhauer & Söhne.

Here at Mollenhauer & Söhne, they produce bassoons, contrabassoons, oboes, English horns and clarinets. Their instruments meet the highest standards. Mollenhauer instruments grace renowned orchestras worldwide. Artists trust their quality and appreciate their even tone.

The contrabassoons are a particular point of pride. You can find them in major orchestras. The Boston Symphony Orchestra also plays Mollenhauer contrabassoons.

The process of creating these instruments is meticulous. Select curly maple is turned and bored. It is then stained, varnished and polished. Strong alloy keys are fitted. Each low B-flat “opera model” contrabassoon includes two Mollenhauer bocals. These are handcrafted in the workshop.

Mollenhauer & Söhne is more than just a workshop. It is a testament to enduring craftsmanship. It is a place where tradition meets innovation. Here, the love of music resonates in every instrument crafted. The Mollenhauer family contributes to the beauty and power of music. Their dedication is evident in the gleaming eyes of musicians. These players experience Mollenhauer instruments for the first time.

Mollenhauer & Söhne combines traditional techniques. They use modern manufacturing methods. The result is instruments that last a lifetime. Mollenhauer instruments inspire musicians again and again. Mollenhauer & Söhne remains dedicated to its craft. They are committed to providing musicians with exceptional instruments. These instruments help musicians achieve their artistic goals.

As you leave Mollenhauer & Söhne, remember the dedication. Remember the passion. Remember the legacy. This is a legacy etched in every note played on their instruments.
