Built in the early 19th century by the Acosta family, the Molino del Durazno was once a cornerstone of the local economy. Imagine its sails, powered by the relentless Fuerteventura wind, grinding wheat, barley, and millet into flour. This flour, in turn, sustained the families of Fuerteventura. But the Molino del Durazno was more than just a workplace. It was a gathering place, a place where stories were shared, laughter echoed, and dreams were woven under the protective shade of its walls. However, with the relentless march of technology and the arrival of industrially produced flour, the mill fell silent in the 1950s. But it was not forgotten. The Molino del Durazno transformed into a poignant symbol of Fuerteventura’s cultural heritage. In the late 1970s, the Acosta family began its first restoration, a testament to their desire to preserve this historical treasure. Tragically, Tropical Storm Delta in 2005 dealt a devastating blow to the mill’s structure. Yet, from the ruins, hope emerged. In 2010, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura took on the mantle, fully restoring the mill as part of their ambitious program to revive the island’s cultural heritage. Today, the Molino del Durazno stands proud, a testament to resilience, a Bien de Interés Cultural, beckoning visitors to journey back in time. It stands as a reminder of a time when the rhythm of life moved at the pace of the wind.
