Documented since 1784, the Molí de Ca na Vinagre whispers tales of resilience and transformation. This windmill, part of a larger historical ensemble, stands as a testament to Mallorca’s rich agricultural past. The Molí de Ca na Vinagre originally shared the landscape with a rustic house, a twin windmill, and a “safareig,” a traditional washing area. Sadly, the octagonal twin mill fell victim to destruction. ARCA, a local heritage association, has tirelessly advocated for its restoration, urging authorities to hold the construction company accountable and impose sanctions for this act against local heritage. The remaining Molí de Ca na Vinagre and the altered safareig bear witness to both progress and loss. The safareig, once a vital community hub, has been modified. Earth fills its basin, and its walls, now dwarfed by modern paving, stand as a muted echo of their former prominence. Despite these changes, the Molí de Ca na Vinagre continues to capture the imagination. It represents a time when windmills dotted the landscape, harnessing the island’s breezes to grind grain and power the local economy. Its presence reminds us of the value of preserving our historical tapestry, even as the threads of time inevitably weave new patterns.
