Was this Moisling once home to a grand estate? You bet it was! Right now, we’re standing where the heart of Moisling once pulsed – the site of the former Moisling Estate. While the estate itself was demolished in 1970, its legacy lives on. Imagine a bustling hub of activity, fields stretching out beyond, and the grand manor house overlooking it all. This was Moisling for centuries. The name ‘Moisling’ itself is a nod to the past. It harks back to the von Moisling family, the original owners of this land in the 13th century. By 1372, the estate had changed hands, becoming the property of prominent Lübeck families. The estate saw periods of conflict and change. Gotthard von Höveln, the owner in the 17th century, stirred up quite a commotion. He challenged Lübeck’s authority by offering refuge to skilled workers, right outside the city walls. This act of defiance put Moisling at the heart of a power struggle. Today, Moisling stands as a testament to its rich past, a tapestry woven with threads of agriculture, power struggles, and cultural diversity.
