In 1866, Prussia annexed the Electorate of Hesse, a move that dramatically reshaped the political landscape. It was von Möller, appointed by King Wilhelm I, who smoothed the transition as the first Oberpräsident of the newly formed province of Hesse-Nassau. Von Möller’s diplomatic prowess earned him the respect of both the Prussian government and the people of Kassel.
