In the heart of Denmark, just north of Aarhus, lies a miniature world of wonder: Modelparken Danmark. This isn’t just any park. It’s a haven for railway enthusiasts and a testament to the power of community. Imagine strolling through a meticulously landscaped park, the air filled with the gentle chug of miniature steam locomotives. Modelparken Danmark opened its gates in 2012. But its story began over a decade earlier, in 2002, with a group of passionate railway enthusiasts known as Viby Minitog. They started with a portable track, sharing their love of trains at events like the Aarhus Festuge. The dream of a permanent home led them to a plot of land near a garden center in Egå in 2009. The transformation began. Over the next few years, the dedicated members of Viby Minitog, which later became Modelparken Danmark, poured their hearts and souls into creating a miniature railway paradise. The park features a 550-meter track, a replica train station, a workshop, and even a railway crossing complete with working booms. The trains themselves are a sight to behold. Modelparken Danmark boasts a diverse collection of miniature locomotives, ranging from Danish classics like the DSB MO motorcar to international models like a German industrial steam engine and an Australian diesel locomotive. You can even spot Olsen-banden’s Traktor 57 with its iconic money-carrying wagon, a nod to the beloved Danish film series. The park continues to evolve, with plans for further track expansion and the addition of a water feature. Modelparken Danmark is a living testament to the dedication and passion of its volunteers. They have created a unique and captivating experience for visitors of all ages, bringing the magic of miniature railways to life.
