Mission Unlimited Church of God in Christ is part of the First Jurisdiction of Illinois Church of God in Christ. This jurisdiction has a rich history. It was originally called “Central Illinois”. It was established in 1955 by Bishop Louis Henry Ford, under the guidance of the Church of God in Christ founder, Bishop Charles Harrison Mason. The jurisdiction’s first Jurisdictional Supervisor of Women, Mother Rosie Hines, served faithfully until 1969. She had deep roots in the church, having been a member at Temple Church of God in Christ in Memphis under Bishop Mason’s leadership. She later became a member at 40th & State Church of God in Christ in Chicago.
The legacy of leadership continued with Mother Carrie Cantrell. She championed education, establishing the Clara Cantrell Scholarship Guild in memory of her mother. Mother Cantrell worked alongside several bishops, including Bishop Ford, Bishop Shephard Little, and the current prelate, Bishop Ocie Booker. The women’s department of the First Jurisdiction of Illinois has seen a succession of dedicated leaders. Each one has left their mark on Mission Unlimited Church of God in Christ and the wider community.
