This remarkable ecological reserve in Avellaneda offers a unique escape from the bustling city, right here, just a few kilometers from Buenos Aires. The Mirador Eco Área Municipal sprawls across 140 hectares. This sanctuary is delimited by the Sarandí and Santo Domingo streams and the Rio de la Plata. It encompasses the coastline stretching between Sarandí and Villa Domínico. This area boasts a remarkable biodiversity. It shelters over 180 bird species, more than 10 amphibian species (representing almost 50% of those found in Buenos Aires province), and 30 dragonfly species (12% of Argentina’s total). The iconic ceibo tree, Argentina’s national flower, also graces this landscape.
The Mirador Eco Área Municipal was conceived as a haven for local biodiversity. It offers opportunities for recreation, community engagement, and environmental education programs. It has restored public access to the river through an ecologically conscious walkway. The design prioritizes preservation of the diverse ecosystems. The Mirador Eco Área Municipal features a wooden pier. From this vantage point, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the river. Four distinct trails wind through the reserve, offering immersive experiences of the natural surroundings. This access is available thanks to new additions inaugurated on September 22nd. This included a river viewpoint and four new trails, enhancing the reserve’s accessibility and appeal.
The reserve opens its doors from Thursday to Sunday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, with last entry at 5:30 pm. If arriving by car, follow Calle Nicaragua to the parking area, then walk to the right to find the park ranger’s house, marking the entrance to the trails. Access is also possible by foot or bicycle. Just outside the reserve, between Santo Domingo stream and the Rio de la Plata, local artisans offer handcrafted goods, including regional sausages and the traditional Vino de la Costa.
