Minet Country Park has a rich history. The land was once part of the Coldharbour Estate. The Minet family owned the estate from 1766 to the mid-20th century. The park’s name honors this family.
The park fell into neglect. It became a dumping ground. Vandalism was rife here. Litter and waste blighted the landscape. The area needed a transformation.
Hillingdon Borough Council took action. They transformed the degraded space. The council created a new parkland setting. This became Minet Country Park. Woodland Environmental played a key role. They cleared the site. They decontaminated streams. New soft landscaping was introduced. Car parks and fencing were constructed. Weirs were also built.
Minet Country Park opened to the public in 2003. It quickly became a valued green space. In 2009, it received a Green Flag award. This recognized its high standards.
Today, Minet Country Park is a mosaic of habitats. Hedgerows, waterways, and grasslands connect them. These corridors are home to diverse wildlife. You might spot wild plants, birds, and insects. The park is part of a Site of Borough Importance for Nature Conservation. This highlights its ecological value.
The park boasts many facilities. There is a children’s play area. Picnic areas offer space for outdoor meals. A network of footpaths invites exploration. Benches provide spots for relaxation. The Hillingdon Cycle Circuit is also within the park. It can be used free of charge.
Minet Country Park is managed in partnership. Hillingdon Council works with A Rocha Living Waterways. Together, they ensure the park thrives. They organize events and activities here.
All entrances are accessible. Wheelchair and pushchair-friendly gates are there. The park is easy to reach by bus. Bus stops are located at the north end. The closest train station is Hayes and Harlington.
