What if a church’s story wasn’t just about bricks and mortar? Mill City Church in Minneapolis isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith and community. It began in 2008 a new church planted by Woodridge Church. A group felt God’s call to start a new church in Northeast Minneapolis. Mill City Church’s mission is simple love their community in Jesus’ name. They strive to discover God’s work in neighborhoods workplaces schools and families. They aim to join God’s mission loving others in Jesus’ name.
Mill City Church isn’t just about Sunday services. It’s a vibrant community. They host three identical services each Sunday. They also have a weekly live worship service on Facebook and YouTube. Children’s programming is available for those aged 0-5th grade. Student ministry meets Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings for 6th-12th graders. During the week many gather in discipleship groups. Mill City Neighborhoods extend throughout the Twin Cities. The church actively participates in outreach. They are a founding church for Every Meal fighting child hunger. They partner with Hope Ave Twin Cities serving the homeless.
Mill City Church’s journey is one of growth and collaboration. In 2019 they helped launch North City Church. In 2021 they added Espíritu Santo Iglesia a predominantly Spanish-speaking church. In 2023 Elim Church joined Mill City Church. This merger was a significant event. It was documented in the Northeaster local magazine. The merger brought together two communities. Elim Church was sunsetted. Mill City now operates from the former Elim Church building. The merger was a result of a long process. Both congregations carefully considered the “Better Together” proposal. This was a testament to the leadership and faith of both communities. The decision was a significant one for both churches.
